Weldon Springs lake near Clinton

1. Clinton Lake State Recreation Area

In between Clinton and Farmer City, near IL Route 54 and IL Route 10, Clinton Lake is the Central Illinois haven for water enthusiasts. The lake is home to a sailing association and is the main hub for the University of Illinois’ Rowing Team from Champaign-Urbana. And don’t forget the boating and kayaking! If you prefer to stay on land, Clinton Lake is still a great choice for turf-loving nature enthusiasts. Explore the scenic trails and picnic areas surrounding the lake and take in the wildlife. It’s THE ideal summer place to visit with your Jeep Wrangler…you will want to take the top off first!

2. Weldon Springs State Park

A short drive from Clinton, near IL Route 10 and just east of Route 51, Weldon Springs State Park boasts 550 acres of natural DeWitt County beauty. Hike through lush landscapes, enjoy birdwatching, or have a peaceful picnic by the lake. The park’s unique geology, including the presence of northernmost bald cypress trees in Illinois, adds to its charm. If you want a great location for a Jeep drive, this is it!

3. Clinton Area Farmers and Artisans Market

On Saturdays during the summer, cruise the downtown Clinton square and make a stop at the Farmer’s market.  Clinton’s Farmer’s Market features fresh produce, handmade crafts, and live entertainment. It’s a perfect spot to support local vendors, enjoy delicious food, and experience the community spirit of Clinton.

4. DeWitt County 4-H Fair

Held in early July, the DeWitt Macon Piatt 4-H Fair hosts youth from Argenta, Monticello, Weldon, Maroa, and numerous nearby towns who exhibit their livestock and general projects. The show is located north of Clinton, just off of IL Route 51. The DeWitt County 4-H Fair Association also hosts family-friendly beef, horse and goat shows on the fairgrounds from April to October, to raise funds for grounds upkeep. If you’re looking for a quick weekend activity, it’s an easy drive from Bloomington, Lincoln and Decatur!

5. C.H. Moore Homestead – DeWitt County Museum

Explore this historic Victorian mansion, which houses exhibits on local history, antique farm equipment, and more. The museum is also the centerpiece of the annual Apple ‘n Pork Festival, which hosts thousands of Central Illinois visitors from Springfield and Bloomington – and many from even further away – the last weekend in September.

6. Triple M Farm Jeep Day

Visit Mariah’s Mums & More near Lane, IL, just north of Decatur and west of Champaign, to experience a working farm. Stroll through vibrant fields, participate in seasonal workshops, and enjoy farm-to-table treats. It’s a peaceful retreat for nature lovers and families. Farmers Greg and Mariah have introduced larger kids’ area, and don’t forget their annual Jeep Day!

7. Delightful Shopping and Events

Spend an afternoon exploring the charming Clinton downtown area, just a block away from Baum Chrysler Jeep! Discover unique shops, cozy cafes, and local boutiques. The area often hosts events, including MayDays, creating a lively atmosphere perfect for an afternoon stroll. But don’t stop there! Take your Jeep to the junction of Route 51 and 54 for some boutique and antique shopping at Clinton Antique Mall and Country Junction, or thrifting delight at Encore Thrift Store or Love It Once More.

8. Live Music and Entertainment

Clinton’s local venues, such as LaTeaDa and Two Doors Down Brewing, often host live music events. Enjoy performances from local bands and artists in a relaxed setting. It’s perfect for a Jeep summer cruise-in!
